 These plants are generally planted ornamentally 
with the added benefit of having an edible elements.

Cydonia oblonga - Quince Small shrub or tree, prefers full sun. Rosaceae family and sole member of the Cryonic genus. Prefers full sun and a prolonged cold season. Photo - late October 2014 after leaves have fallen off before fruit is fully ripe.

Quince fruit - excellent for jams, jellies, marmalade, puddings, wine and ciders. Very fragrant. Called the "Golden Apple by Greeks and Romans.

Zanthoxylum Simulans - Flatspine prickly ash- Grows as a spreading shrub or small tree with a nice graceful habit. Very interesting contrast of nobby bark and thorny branches with delicate leaves, small pretty flowers and pretty red berries.

Edible fruit from the Zanthoxylum Simulans - used as a dried condiment ground like black pepper. Stronger flavor than traditional black pepper. It is one of several species of Zanthoxylum from which Sichuan pepper is produced.

Poncirus trifoliate - Hardy Orange - Shrub to a small tree that can be grown in full sun to partial shade, and is tolerant to frost. Huge thorns on this plant make it a very good barrier for animals and intruders. It can be trained into a formidable hedge.

Hardy Orange Fruit - Best when cooked. Interesting and different than traditional orange. Can be used in marmalade, drinks, syrups. Cans well and has medicinal uses as a preventitive for allergic inflammation.

Capsicum annuum - "Black pearl" - Amazingly beautiful herbaceous plant. Deep purple black leaves and immature fruit is black pearls ripening to bright red. Pepper is VERY HOT! Prefers full sun and grows up to 18"tall.

Koelreuteria paniculata - "Goldenrain tree" - very large tree. The small seeds found inside the pretty brown bladders are edible when roasted, however they are not commonly used. Medicinal uses of the flowers for the treatment of conjunctivitis and epiphora. Flowers and leaves are used for dyes and small black seeds are also used for beads.

Lablab purpureus - "Lablab"- Annual Vine - grown for ornamental and edible. Grown for the edible flowers, leaves and immature seeds. Mature seeds are edible however need boiling several times with water changes between boils to dissipate toxic levels of cyanogenic glucosides.

Staphylea trifolia - "American bladdernut" - edible seeds are eaten raw or cooked; similar to pistachios, also can be pressed for a sweet oil.

Medium Shrub - grows in dappled sun. Blooms in May through June and fruit matures in September to October.

Oxalis Clover - Also known as wood sorrel or false shamrock.  
Edible leaves they have a pleasant acidic taste when added to salads or as a garnish.

Oxalis Clover tuber - This plant has a long history of being used as a food source the tubers can be cooked and are used in sweet and savory preparations. The leaves are also edible and historically have been used for a Vitamin C source and to eleviate thirst.
